Buddies’ Bake Shop: Creating Opportunities for People with Disabilities through Job Training and Work Experience

Abstract
While the unemployment rate in the United States has slowly been decreasing over the past year, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities has been increasing. People with disabilities have the potential to contribute so much to our communities yet are often overlooked and underutilized. In response to these issues, this thesis is a proposal for a nonprofit bakery that will hire people with disabilities to provide them with job training and work experience. This proposal analyzes the feasibility of a nonprofit-bakery by looking at internal and external factors that would affect its success. Through a careful examination of other social enterprises, the trends in the coffee and snack shop industry, financial projections for a new bakery and more, this proposal strives to demonstrate the achievability of a nonprofit bakery.
