Preference is given to applicants who have completed a majority of the university’s core education requirements and have a grade point average of 3.00 or higher, and submit a strong personal statement (additional guidance for the personal statement is listed below).

Plan to apply for admission in the term prior to achieving junior class standing (or have earned 90–105 credits). We'll consider strong applicants who have not yet reached this level on a case-by-case basis. You must apply to the major before earning 30 credits in Planning, Public Policy and Management (PPPM) major courses.

Degree Info: BA or BS in PPPM

Prior to applying for admission to the major, you must complete the following courses:

• Economics 201 Introduction to Economic Analysis: Microeconomics (completed with a grade of P/C- or higher)
• At least one of the following must be passed with a letter grade of C- or higher:
  • PPPM 201 Introduction to Public Policy
  • PPPM 205 Introduction to City Planning
  • PPPM 280 Introduction to the Nonprofit Sector

Application Process

To be considered for admission, click the "Apply Now" button below and complete and submit the following materials:

• Application Form: fully respond to all questions in the Qualtrics application
• Transcripts: from all colleges and universities attended, including UO (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
• Brief Résumé: showing college-level education, employment, and volunteer history (avoid high school experience on résumé)
• Personal Statement: describing your interest in public service, your career goals, and how the PPPM major will support your interests and help you achieve your goals (limit your statement to two typed, double-spaced pages)

Additional guidelines regarding the personal statement:

• Career Objectives: A statement regarding your career objectives is required within the personal statement. For example, explain the areas of public service where you might see yourself working. Your statement will be evaluated in terms of how well these objectives are presented and whether or not they are appropriate to the PPPM program.
• Communication Skills: Because communication skills are critical to a professional in public service, preference is given to applicants who can demonstrate these skills. For example, the career objectives statement is used to evaluate an applicant’s writing ability and how effectively the applicant can communicate.

Deadline

Applications are accepted fall, winter, and spring terms. Admission to the major is effective the following term.

Applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Monday of week 4 during fall, winter, and spring terms.

Applicants will receive a PDF copy of their application materials once the Qualtrics form is completed and submitted.
