Anne Brown on the Future of Traffic and Commuting

Technology is changing transportation, especially in the realm of traffic management.

PPPM Assistant Professor Anne Brown—whose research focuses on transportation equity, shared mobility, and travel behavior—spoke to the Erie Times-News, explaining that infrastructure alone does not reduce congestion.

Rather, it will be a combination of tolls, “hot lanes,” ride-sharing technology, and—in the more distant future—autonomous vehicles.

"We're at essentially an inflection point where cities and communities are really more willing to rethink how we've done transportation in the past," Brown said.
