Kaushal Sapkota (hear my name) is a Doctoral Candidate of Planning and Public Affairs at the School of Planning, Public Policy, and Management (PPPM) at the University of Oregon (USA). His doctoral thesis focuses on the volunteering and prosocial behavior of university students in Nepal. Kaushal is also interested in learning about nonprofit management, volunteering, diaspora philanthropy, higher education, nonprofit management education, and teaching and learning. Kaushal is a 2024 Oregon Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff) Graduate Fellow.
At the University of Oregon (UO), Kaushal has been a part of Rehearsals for Life - a graduate/undergraduate student theatre troupe that uses applied theatre and storytelling to design experiential workshops that promote bystander intervention and advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice within UO and beyond. He has taught Fundraising for Nonprofit Organizations class as an instructor and assisted PPPM faculty as their graduate employee (teaching assistant) for courses like Introduction to the Nonprofit Sector, Fundraising for Nonprofit Organizations, Impact Philanthropy, and Practice of Leadership and Change. Currently, he serves on the board of the Eugene-Kathmandu Sister City Association (EKSCA) (a local nonprofit promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Eugene and Kathmandu) and co-coordinates the International Society for Third Sector Research’s (ISTR) Teaching & Learning Affinity Group (TLAG) (a group of ISTR scholars interested in teaching and learning in the third sector).
Kaushal is from Kathmandu, Nepal. In Nepal, he was involved with King’s College (a local business school) in developing and leading their MBA Nonprofit Program, teaching graduate-level nonprofit management courses, and co-founding the Office of Safe and Respectable Learning (OSRL, a DEIB initiative). Beyond his professional engagement, Kaushal was also engaged in nonprofit consulting (pro-bono and contracted), board governance, and fundraising for charitable initiatives. Kaushal likes photography, loves traveling, and appreciates the arts (theatre, film, and/or any form of expression). He cares deeply about diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
